In Bruges

So I think my blog is getting kind of long and boring so I'm going to just give you some highlights.

  • Yesterday we went to Bruges. It was very picturesque. So far we have not found anywhere yet to upload photos.
  • Bruges is Flemish and speaks primarily Dutch. They also get 3 million tourist a year, mostly from within Europe, so everyone who works there has to speak at least 4-5 language fluently!
  • In Bruges we went to what is probably the oldest pub in the world (almost 500 year old!)
  • We chatted with 3 different old men from Bruges. I''m glad Ian was with me because I probably wouldn't have felt comfortable talking to them by myself.
  • We had some interesting conversations with them ranging from socialism to astrology. We also found out that there is quite a cultural divide over linguistic lines. It would strange to live in such a tiny country that has 3 official languages.
  • We went to a kind of secret bar down an alley that only had locals in it. Which was where we encountered 2 of the old men we chatted with. It had a very good beer called Garre that is found nowhere else in the world.
  • We ate more frites with "special sauce" which consisted of curry ketchup, mayo, and grilled onions. It was very good.
